Our performance was not as successful as it could have been. I feel like it was to short to develop and interesting idea.
I thought the bit that worked was Sacha and Amaya's section where they were mimicking the MP's, this was high energy and incorporated the elements of our sites.
In terms of our piece being site specific, it could have related more to the site. We didn't use any emotional links to the site or the purpose of the site in our piece. I feel like the parts we used was the structure of the steps and the glass but didn't think about the site itself. We took our own idea and linked the site to that and made it specific to that.
If I was to do this again I would think more about what things happen within the site and what could happen there as opposed to a story I could try and link it to the site.
Another group did a piece next to a fire escape stairs about prostitution. This piece worked really well as there was an emotional connection to the possible meaning of the site. One of them had written a poem in response to their site which they used in their piece and it worked really well. I think this is because it all came honestly from the site.
Our rehearsal process could have been more effective. If I was to do this again I would re think the company. There was too many people in our group to have effective discussions and rehearsals. What happened in the end was two of us seemed to take on a directors role in the group in order to prevent conflict. Although this worked in the end, the smaller groups around us seemed to be able to work better without needing this.
Site Specific
Monday, 18 March 2013
This is a picture of our site. The glass screen will represent a television screen. The outside section will be where the civilians are. We will get the site staff to open the door between the glass and the outside. This will allow for the mp's to be interviewed and for us all to create a riot/ rumor mill section all together. This also allows for the sound behind the glass to be heard from the audience outside. With the doors shut this isn't possible.
We are going to use the steps as a line chart for the election. Amaya and Kitty have made signs of the candidates faces to use in a campaign. These will also be carried by the candidates up the steps as though its a chart showing who has the most votes in the election. Then at the end of the piece when we have to voted we go into the audience and ask them who they would vote for and that decides who ends up winning at the end of the piece.

Rehearsals
Our first rehearsal in our space was difficult. With 9 people, generating solid ideas can be hard, because everyone argues and has their own opinions. We eventually settled on the idea of an election. We are going to use the glass as a tv screen with election candidates. Then have the 'voters' outside the glass mocking them.
With such a large group beginning our devising process was proving difficult so me and two others decided to write out an initial section of script based on our ideas.
Section 1:

public spending if we don’t want a rerun of 2009-

to level the rising debt the answer lies in taxes

Initial Performance Ideas
We had various different ideas about how to use our space, as we wanted to combine the outside section with the glass and the stairs. Some ideas were:
- A day in the life, a sequence of events happening within a day and there significance
- the class divide between rich and poor - a rich people's party/fundraiser for Ethiopian children, yet have starving people right outside their window who they aren't willing to help (stimulus: book called the help)
- A poor girl from the outside falls in love with a rich girl on the inside
- Political election - mp's on the inside of the glass the people on the outside mimicking, arguing
- School pranks gone wrong
- A murder mystery, someone gets killed we find out who
- MP scandals and lies
- combination of election and scandal
